Decisive control over Pakistan-backed terrorism in J&K after abrogation of Article 370, says Amit Shah | India News – Times of India

SRINAGAR: Security forces have taken a “decisive control” over Pakistan-sponsored terrorism in J&K following the abrogation of Article 370 two-and-a-half-years ago, Union home minister Amit Shah said at the CRPF’s 83rd Raising Day main function in Jammu on Saturday, held for the first time outside Delhi.
“After the abrogation of Article 370, the security forces have successfully controlled terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir,” Shah said and called it the biggest spinoff of the repeal of the constitutional instrument that gave J&K some special but contentious privileges. Praising the CRPF, he said “I am sure we will be able to restore peace” in the next few years.
The situation in J&K has seen a “drastic change” since Narendra Modi took over as PM in 2014, he said. And on the PM’s watch, the dream and vision of ideologues Shyama Prasad Mukherjee and Pandit Prem Nath Dogra— Ek Pradhan, Ek Vidhaan, Ek Nishan— have come true in J&K, Shah said. “Today, it’s the best tribute to the soul of Shyama Prasad Mukherjee that there is one flag, one Constitution and one leader across India,” he said.
Democracy has returned to J&K and the Union territory has been recording “inclusive development” through corruption-free governance as a result of Article 370’s removal, said Shah, who reached Jammu on Friday for a two-day visit.
“Democracy is flourishing across J&K. Every village has a sarpanch and panchayat members now. National highways are being renovated and all modern means are being employed to uplift J&K,” the home minister said. “In every segment, record achievements are being made.”
He cited the achievement of the J&K administration successfully ensuring investment of over Rs 33,000 crore at a time when democracy was almost invisible at grassroots. Furthermore, J&K will have seven new medical colleges and two AIIMS will be functional soon, he said.
He then told the jawans assembled at the event that the Centre is committed to take CRPF to new heights and kit it out with modern weaponry and technology. “I am sure CRPF will emerge as the country’s elite force soon,” he said. “We will never forget the valour and courage of this force. The great sacrifices made by CRPF men in the line of duty will be written with golden letters. The families of martyrs will never be left alone.”
Shah also reviewed the security situation in J&K and called for proactive operations to deny terrorists any safe haven or financial support. “The security grid should be further strengthened to ensure zero cross-border infiltration and to eliminate terrorism completely in order to achieve PM Modi’s vision of a peaceful and prosperous J&K,” he said while chairing a security meeting with Lt Governor Manoj Sinha and senior officers.
He appreciated the improvement in the security situation, reduction in terrorism-related cases from 417 in 2018 to 229 in 2021 and fall in the death rate of security forces from 91 in 2018 to 42 in 2021.
