5 patients who came for surgery at Chandigarh’s PGI died under suspicious circumstances. These deaths have happened during the last week. Regarding this, the PGI administration has doubts about the propofol vaccine given to him. After this, the entire stock of Propofol injection given to the patients in Chandigarh city has been confiscated.

About 3200 injections were confiscated. This injection has now been sent to the Central Drugs Laboratory, Kolkata for examination. Although PGI says that this injection is the reason for the deaths of patients, something can be said only after the report comes about it.

Was admitted for neuro and ortho surgery, injection is common
According to sources, 5 patients who died in PGI had come here for orthopedic and neurosurgery. The common thing in all of them was that they were given propofol injections for sedation. After this, the PGI immediately informed the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO). Sunil Choudhary, Senior Drug Control Officer, Chandigarh said that after receiving a complaint from the PGI doctors, he came along with the CDSCO team and took samples. The supply of this batch of injection has been stopped till the report comes.

PGI also formed a committee for investigation
In this entire matter, now PGI has also formed a committee for investigation. Which will be led by Professor SK Gupta, Head of Neurosurgery. Professor Vipin Kaushal, medical superintendent of PGI, said that this effect has been seen in patients only after being given anesthetic drugs. Soon after which the CDSCO team was informed. According to PGI, these injections were purchased from a private pharmacy.

The real cause of death will come out only after the report: Health Secretary Chandigarh
Chandigarh Health Secretary Yashpal Garg said that the real reason for the death of 5 people cannot be said at present. The joint team of Drug Inspectors of Chandigarh and CDSCO have taken samples from the pharmacy from where the medicine was purchased. Samples have been sent for testing. Its report will come in about 4 weeks. All injections of this batch have been removed from the market. Its Panchkula distributors have also been asked not to supply this batch of medicines.
