About Deadpool and Wolverine

In this third installment of the ‘Deadpool’ franchise, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman reprise their roles as the foul-mouthed superhero and the X-Men mutant, respectively. The rights to these characters were acquired by Disney in the $71.3 billion purchase of 21st Century Fox in 2019, and they are considered significant assets alongside other intellectual properties like ‘Avatar.’

The success of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ boosts the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), which comprises 34 interconnected films and is the most successful movie franchise in Hollywood history, having grossed over $30 billion. The superhero genre has faced challenges recently, with several films underperforming, including ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,’ ‘The Marvels,’ and DC’s ‘The Flash’ and ‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods,’ which struggled to recoup their production costs.

The film’s performance signals a turnaround for Disney’s film division, which hadn’t been profitable since April 2022. Globally, ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ has sold $438 million worth of tickets. Prior to this, the biggest opening weekend of the year in the US and Canada was for ‘Inside Out 2,’ which has grossed $1.46 billion worldwide since its June release.
