Daily Covid Infections In Odisha Shoot Up To 1216 | Bhubaneswar News – Times of India

Bhubaneswar: The daily Covid infections nearly doubled on Wednesday as the state reported 1,216 cases from 68,878 samples registering a test positivity rate (TPR) of 1.76.
The infection count on Wednesday is the highest since August 15 and a huge surge from the 680 reported a day earlier.
While Khurda and Sundargarh districts together contributed the lion’s share of cases (622), the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack have turned hotspots again. While Bhubaneswar has started registering more than 100 cases, Cuttack is reporting around 50 cases daily.
Only Malkangiri and Kandhamal didn’t report a single case out of the 30 districts. As many as 11 districts reported cases in double digits while Sambalpur and Cuttack reported 99 and 80 cases respectively. The epicentre of the second wave — Nuapada district — has reported just two cases.
Sundargarh, which reported 166 new infections, including 39 students from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya testing positive on Wednesday. In the second wave also, Sundargarh saw a rise in infections for quite a long time.
Experts, who are observing the trend, foresee an explosion of cases but they say there won’t be too many hospitalisations. “What we come to know so far is that those infected by Omicron are having mild to moderate symptoms with stuffy nose and aches. But we don’t know how the virus will behave when a large chunk of the community comes under its attack. We are yet to get concrete data as to how the variant is behaving in Indians,” said senior pulmonologist Sampat Das of the Aditya Aswini designated Covid hospital.
