CWG 2022 Day 7 Live: Sreeshankar, Anees To Play Today As India Looks To Increase Medal Tally

Indian contingent looks forward to another exciting day on Thursday and aims to continue for winning streak at Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham. On Day 6, Indian athletes won five medals — one silver and four bronze medals. So far, India has 18 medals under its belt and stands in the 7th spot in the CWG ranking table.

Buoyed by the maiden men’s singles medal in squash, Saurav Ghosal will be seen in action alongside Dipika Pallikal in the mixed doubles Round of 16 rubber. Meanwhile, Murali Sreeshankar and Muhammed Anees aim for a podium finish in Men’s Long Jump Final. Another medal event to happen today is the team qualification round and individual final in Gymnastics as India’s Bavleen Kaur takes part in both events.

On Wednesday, Judoka Tulika Maan claimed a silver medal in the women’s +78 kg category while weightlifters Lovepreet Singh and Gurdeep Singh settle for bronze in the men’s 109 kg and 109+ kg categories, respectively.

By clearing 2.22 metres in the men’s high jump, Tejaswin Shakar shone with a historic bronze while Saurav Ghosal bagged a maiden CWG medal in men’s singles squash. Saurav made a podium finish with a bronze medal.

World Champions Nikhat Zareen sparkled with another tremendous show as she entered the semifinals of the women’s 50 kg (light-flyweight) category and confirmed a medal. Besides boxer Nikhat Zareen, Nitu Ganghas (48kg) and Mohammed Hussamudin (57kg) assured two more medals in boxing for India.

The Indian athletes, who have been winning medals at CWG 2022, are receiving accolades from politicians, fellow sportspersons and pundits.
