A curfew has been imposed in the Bhaderwah town of J&K’s Doda district on Thursday evening following attempts made by some elements to create communal tension in the area.
Mobile internet services have also been blocked in the entire district as a precautionary measure, police said.
This development comes after a local Muslim cleric allegedly made a hate speech and called for the beheading of Nupur Sharma. In another incident, a young Hindu man uploaded an objectionable post about the Prophet on social media.
According to the police, the curfew has been clamped as a precautionary measure with the situation currently normal and under control.
FIRs have been registered in both the cases. The police have warned that anyone found violating law and order will not be spared.
Taking to Twitter, former J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said, “I hope cooler heads prevail. J&K has enough problems without adding to them with communal tension spreading in and around Bhadarwah. I appeal to everyone to maintain calm and ask my party colleagues to help normalise the situation at the earliest.”
