COVID-19: Out Of 191 Deaths Reported Till Jan 15 In TN This Year, 68.5% Of Them Unvaccinated

Chennai: In a study conducted on the death of 191 COVID-19 patients from January 1 to 15 in Tamil Nadu, the Director of Public Health Dr TS Selvavinayagam revealed that 68.5% were unvaccinated or partially vaccinated persons.

According to a report on The New Indian Express, Selavavinayagam revealing the details of the administrative study said, 85.3% of the people who died between the time frame were all aged over 50 and of the total 94.7% of the patients had comorbidities. Therefore urging the public to get inoculated, the DPH Director said, the analysis revealed that 83.2% of the people which is 159 of 191 patients who died due to coronavirus also had uncontrolled comorbidity.

Further, the Director also revealed the vaccination detail among the elderly and adults in TN. As per the data, the director said, 62% of the elders took one dose while 48 percent received the second dose.

Around 88.62% of adults took one dose while 64.23% of the adults took both doses in Tamil Nadu.

Hence, the doctor advised elderly unvaccinated patients with comorbidities to get admitted upon testing positive for the virus to avoid mortality.

He also urged other elders to get inoculated for reducing mortality.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian addressing the press on Tuesday said, every Thursday mega vaccination camps would be held for administering booster shots along with the like Saturdays’ mega vaccination camps. He also said that there is a possibility for coronavirus surge post the Pongal festivities.
