Court reprimands Center for funeral, threatens to summon Union Home Secretary

The central government was reprimanded by the court for not providing security to BJP leader Vijaykrishna Bhuiya, who was killed in the funeral incident. During the hearing of this case on Monday, Justice Rajashekhar Mantha of Calcutta High Court asked, is the central government above the law?

BJP leader Vijaykrishna Bhuiyan of Maina was murdered on the night of May 1. On May 3, the family appeared in Calcutta High Court demanding a re-mortem of the body. The family said that they do not have confidence in police security. Justice Mantha ordered central security to the family based on the family’s plea. But even after 5 days, Vijaykrishnababu’s family did not get central security. On this day, the petitioner’s lawyer raised the issue in the court. Hearing this, Justice Mantha expressed his anger against the central government.

He said, ‘Is the central government above the law? Avoiding responsibility is a central tendency. I saw it in Andaman, I see it here too. Why central security has not yet been given to the family? If necessary, I will summon the Union Home Minister. Then I will see what you do?’

He further said, ‘This poor attitude of the center is not acceptable. What has been done by the Center is enough to file a contempt of court case.’

On the other hand, the state government has complained that the family of the deceased BJP worker is not cooperating with the investigators. On this day, the command hospital’s autopsy report was submitted to the court. The state lawyer said, ‘There is no significant difference between the post-mortem report of Tamluk Hospital and the post-mortem report of Alipore Command Hospital’. The judge directed to give copies of the 2 post-mortem reports to all the parties.
