Counting continues for bypolls in 5 states: BJP ahead in Maharashtra, Congress leads after two rounds in Tamil Nadu’s Erode

Apart from the assembly elections in 3 states of the North East, the counting of the by-elections held in 5 states is also going on today. These 5 states include West Bengal, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Jharkhand, Arunachal Pradesh. Vote counting has started from 8 am.

Arunachal, Jharkhand, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal had bypolls to one seat each, while Maharashtra had two seats. This voting took place on 27 February. At the same time, the by-election was also held in the parliamentary constituency of Lakshadweep on February 27.

BJP is leading by 3000 votes in Kasbapeth seat in Maharashtra. And in Erode, Congress has taken a lead of 12,000 votes after the second round of counting is over.

Maharashtra: Bypolls held on 2 seats, BJP ahead in Chinchwad
Voting was held on February 26 in Chinchwad, Kasbapeth seats in Maharashtra. The elections to these seats were necessitated by the death of BJP MLAs Mukta Tilak (Kasba Peth) and Laxman Jagtap (Chinchwad). In Chinchwad, Ashwini Jagtap has taken lead after postal ballot counting. Ravindra Dhangerkar of Congress is leading in Kasbapeth.

Tamil Nadu: The credibility of AIDMK and DMK is at stake.
The Congress had fielded Elangovan in the Erode seat. He is leading by 6000 votes after the first round of counting. There was a contest between about 77 candidates here.

Jharkhand: Counting is going on for Ramgarh seat
The Ramgarh seat was lying vacant after Congress’ Mamta Devi was disqualified due to a criminal case. Congress has given ticket to Mamta Devi’s husband Bajrang Mahto. BJP-AJSU made Sunita Chowdhary a candidate. There are 18 candidates in the fray here. Counting 120 people at 40 tables. It will be completed in 11 rounds.

West Bengal: TMC and BJP in Sagdighi seat
The seat fell vacant after the death of three-time TMC MLA Subrata Saha in December 2022. There is a contest between TMC’s Debasish Banerjee, BJP’s Dilip Saha and opposition-backed Congress’s Baron Biswas.

Arunachal Pradesh: BJP won unopposed
The Lumla seat in Arunachal Pradesh was lying vacant after the death of BJP’s Jambe Tashi. After this, BJP made Tesring Lhamu its candidate here. Due to absence of any other candidate, BJP has won this seat unopposed.
