Mallikarjun Kharge has become the new President of Congress. He defeated Shashi Tharoor by 6,825 votes. 9,385 votes were cast for the post of Congress President, out of which 416 votes were rejected. Congress organization’s election chief Madhusudan Mistry said that some people had written Rahul Gandhi’s name in the pamphlets. Knowing that Rahul Gandhi is not contesting elections. Madhusudan Mistry told that some leaders had written their names and some their numbers in the pamphlets. Due to this 416 votes had to be declared invalid. With this, he declared Kharge as the new Congress President. With Kharge’s victory, the Congress has got a non-Congress president for 24 years. Kharge got 7897 votes, while Tharoor could get only 1072 votes.

As soon as the election results came out, Tharoor congratulated Kharge and thanked those who supported him. After this he reached his residence in Delhi to meet Kharge. However, Shashi Tharoor had accused Chief Election Agent Salman Soz of voting rigging.
