India fell to a 3-1 defeat against Malaysia in the final match of the mixed team badminton event in the Commonwealth Games 2022 on Tuesday, 2 August. Indian stars, Kidambi Srikanth, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, Chirag Shetty along with others were defeated on the day as India were outplayed in three of their matches against a spirited Malaysia. In fact it was only PV Sindhu who was able to bag points today, winning her match in straight sets 22-20, 21-17 to put India on level terms after they lost the men’s doubles.

Speaking after the event exclusively with India Today, Sindhu said that it was just not India’s day today.

“Well, I gave my team a point but unfortunately, the men’s singles and the women’s doubles could not do it. They tried their best but only one can win and one has to lose. It was not our day is what I felt and overall we secured a silver and I think it is important now to go back, relax and comeback and start our individuals soon. So it is important to be focused on that too,” she said.

Asked about her own individual event, Sindhu said that the aim was to clinch Gold, but would try hard to not lose focus.

“Definitely hoping for the best and hoping for the gold but it is important to give my best in every single match and it is not going to be easy because it depends on that particular day, is what I feel. Because I know the conditions, how they are, they keep changing, so it is important to be focused from the first point, from the first day,” Sindhu concluded her interview.
