Cold wave to hit Odisha for next three days: Met | Bhubaneswar News – Times of India

BHUBANESWAR: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday issued a cold wave warning for several parts of the state for the next three days as the sharp fall in the mercury level affected life.
The IMD issued an orange warning of severe cold wave over isolated places in Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Bargarh and Kandhamal districts from Tuesday evening to Wednesday morning.
The IMD forecast said cold wave will prevail over isolated places in the 14 districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Sonepur, Boudh, Kandhamal, Bhadrak, Angul, Dhenkanal, Deogarh and Sambalpur from Tuesday morning. The 17 districts where cold wave will prevail from Wednesday morning are Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Sambalpur, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Cuttack, Khurda, Nayagarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Bolangir, Nuapada, Kalahandi and Deogarh.
While Daringbadi in Kandhamal district shivered at the season’s lowest of 4 degrees Celsius on Monday, the temperature was hovering below 10°C at 12 more places. A blanket of frozen dew drops called white dew covered roof of houses, branches of trees and open fields on Monday morning, said Gadadhar Patra, block development officer of Daringbadi.
Jharsuguda at 5.6°C saw the highest fall of 6.7 degrees below the normal. The town wore a deserted look after 9 pm. Footpath dwellers and the poor gathered around bonfires to beat the cold.
The city recorded a minimum of 13.8°C, 1.4 degrees below the normal.
“Cold wave condition is very likely to prevail over isolated places in selected districts for the next three days. Continuous inflow of dry and cold wind from northwest and northerly directions would aid the drop in mercury level in the state,” said Umashankar Das, a scientist of regional IMD centre here.
