Coimbatore: Two workers arrested for stealing Rs 5.75 lakh from newly constructed house | Coimbatore News – Times of India

COIMBATORE: Two construction workers were arrested on Friday for stealing Rs 5.75 lakh from a newly constructed house at Kalapatti on March 14 night.
C Gowthaman, 33 from Diamond Dacil apartment at Kalapatti lodged a complaint with Kovilpalayam police sub-inspector E Jayaprakash on March 15 around 10 am.
He said in his complaint that he was engaged with his own business and he was residing in a house with his wife Gowthami and his son Mivan Gowthaman.
He bought a new house at Sathyanand Niketan residential area at Shiva Nagar extension in Kalapatti and conducted the house warming ceremony on March 14morning. The relatives left for their houses in the evening.
Around 8 pm, Gowthaman and his wife were counting the cash gift (Moi Panam in Tamil) given by the relatives after attending the house warming ceremony. They counted Rs 5.75 lakh in cash and kept the money on the bed of the first floor. The couple came to the ground floor to have dinner. Around 9.25 pm, they again returned to the first floor where they found the amount Rs 5.75 lakh missing from the bed.
The first floor was covered with glasses and anyone could see the money from the outside. He alerted his relatives and launched a search and found the latch of the neighbour’s house. Unidentified persons entered the balcony of the neighbour’s house and later, they entered Gowthaman’s house and stole the amount.
Based on his complaint, the police registered a case and formed a special team to nab the thieves. The police team arrested M. Rajiv Gandhi19 from Vadakarai Thayanur in Viluppuram district and N Karthi, 24 from Arakandanallur in Viluppuram district on Friday and recovered the stolen amount from them.
The preliminary inquiry revealed that the duo were construction workers and they were working at the house belonging to Gowthaman.
They noticed the cash and entered the bedroom through the balcony and stole the amount. They were arrested when the police conducted a vehicle check near a hotel on Vilankurichi road on Friday.
The arrested person was remanded in judicial custody on Friday night.
