Coimbatore: Hindu outfit men detained under Goondas Act | Coimbatore News – Times of India

COIMBATORE: City police commissioner Pradip Kumar has detained two Hindu Munnani workers, who were arrested for desecrating the statue of Periyar EV Ramasamy at Vellalore a few days ago, under the Goondas Act.
A police officer said 26-year-old V Arunkarthik, an autorickshaw driver, and 28-year-old V Mohanraj, both residents of Vellalore, had desecrated the statue in front of the Periyar study centre in the locality on January 9 by garlanding it with a pair of slippers and smearing saffron colour powder on its head.
The Podanur police subsequently registered a case and arrested the two on January 11 and lodged them in the Coimbatore Central Prison. “They prepared a detailed report against the duo for creating tension among two sections of the society and requested the city police commissioner to detain them under the Goondas Act.”
Pradip Kumar detained them under the Act on Monday and the order copies were served on them at the city central prison.
