Coimbatore Corporation councillors to undergo training | Coimbatore News – Times of India

COIMBATORE: The newly elected ward councillors in Coimbatore will undergo a one-day training on Friday which will take them through their roles, responsibility and how they bring about a change by working closely with the residents of their wards. The training programme is seen as a much needed one as 93 out of the 100 councillors are first time elects, according to officials.
The programme is arranged in a private resort at Anaikatti. Sources from the city corporation said that local governance experts from Janaagraha, a Bengaluru-based non-profit trust, would be conducting the training programme.
Sources said that the councillors can do wonders if they work by paying heed to the demands of the people. They will also play a vital role in improving cleanliness, drinking water supply and reaching out to people with all basic amenities.
A councillor from North Zone said, “We were asked to reach the corporation main building by 7am on Friday. Initially, we were asked to reach the report on our own. After some of the councillors expressed concern, vehicles have been arranged. We have been told that training would start at 9am.”
An experienced councillor said the training would be useful for new councillors, comprising the majority. “Experienced councillors like me are also looking forward to learning something out of it,” she said.
