Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, after refusing to pay the legal expenses of lakhs of rupees related to Uttar Pradesh gangster Mukhtar Ansari, has now announced to recover it from former Chief Minister Captain Amarinder and former Jail Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa. In the month of April, the Chief Minister’s Office had returned the file for payment of about Rs 55 lakh.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann tweeted that the 55 lakh fee for keeping UP’s gangster Ansari in Punjab jail and fighting his case in the Supreme Court will not be paid from the Punjab treasury. This money will be recovered from the then Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and Jail Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa. In case of non-payment, their pension and other government benefits will be cancelled.

The cost of a lawyer’s appearance is 11 lakhs.
In April last, the Chief Minister’s Office had returned the bill of a senior Supreme Court lawyer. Who had fought a case in the Supreme Court for maintaining the attendance of Mukhtar Ansari in Punjab’s Ropar Jail during Captain Sarkar.

In this case, the Punjab government had to spend about Rs 11 lakh on each appearance of the lawyer. This information was tweeted by CM Mann himself. The tweet said that the criminal from UP was kept in Ropar Jail with comfort and convenience. Did not appear even after issuing warrants 48 times. Expensive lawyer, cost 55 lakhs. The file has been returned with charges.

Mukhtar Ansari was lodged in Ropar Jail
Mukhtar Ansari was lodged in Ropar Jail in Punjab for almost two and a half years (2019-2021). The Punjab Police had brought him from Uttar Pradesh on transit remand. The Mohali police had registered a case against Mukhtar Ansari on the complaint of a builder. The UP police wanted the Punjab government to send Mukhtar Ansari back, but the Punjab government kept refusing to send Ansari back.

UP Police had reached the Supreme Court
The UP government had written 25 letters to the Punjab government demanding the return of Mukhtar Ansari. But, the Punjab government had mentioned about the ill health of Mukhtar Ansari. In the end, the UP government had approached the Supreme Court. Against which the Punjab government hired a senior lawyer. Due to which there was a burden of 55 lakhs on the treasury of Punjab Government. The same bill had reached Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, which he had sent back.
