China has started a military exercise in the South China Sea, enraged by US Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan. This is the biggest military exercise ever in the region. On this day in 1965, Pakistan launched Operation Gibraltar to capture Kashmir. After this war broke out between India and Pakistan. There were two incidents behind this operation. First- India’s defeat in 1962 war with China and second- Jawaharlal Nehru’s death in 1964. Pakistan felt that India was weak now and it could be exploited.

The war between the two countries continued throughout August. On 1 September, Pakistan launched Operation Grand Slam to capture the Akhnoor sector.
