On Thursday, Kharar Court granted regular bail to Rankaj Verma, arrested in a case related to viral video of girls taking bath in Chandigarh University (CU). He was given regular bail on a bond of Rs 1 lakh. However, on Thursday, the formalities of the bail bond could not be completed due to paucity of time. In such a situation, the release of Rankaj will now be done only on Friday.

Rankaj Verma’s lawyer Harvinder Singh Johal told that the formalities to bring his client out of jail will be completed tomorrow. Rankaj Verma was arrested by the Punjab Police on September 18. He was sent to jail after 12 days of police remand.

On the other hand, Sanjeev Singh, who was arrested from Arunachal Pradesh on September 24, has been sent to jail after his three-day remand is over. He was on remand for last 8 days. The married soldier was said to be in a relationship with the accused university student. At the same time, the student said that she was blackmailed and asked to send videos of girls. However, so far, in the preliminary investigation from the phone of any of the accused, it has been said that no objectionable video of any other university student has been found. The hard disk recovered from the soldier’s house in Jammu along with the phones of the accused has gone for forensic examination.

In his bail application, Rankaj had declared himself completely innocent and it was termed as a case of wrong identity. His DP picked up from Facebook was used by the accused. Rankaj claimed that he never met or contacted Sunny Mehta, accused student and soldier Sanjeev Singh of Rohru (Shimla). Call details of his phone etc. can also be checked. The accused soldier had also raised his hand in a court appearance and had told Rankaj innocent.

Let us inform that at the beginning of this case, Kharar police station had registered a case under section 354C of IPC and section 66E of IT Act. These were both bailable sections. At the same time, section 67A of the IT Act was also added later. It is non-bailable and carries a jail term of up to five years.

She was told by the Warden of Girls Hostel Rajwinder Kaur that some girls of the hostel are suspecting a girl of making nude videos in their washroom. During interrogation of the accused girl, he told that he had made a video and sent it to his boyfriend Sunny Mehta, who is a resident of Shimla.

Ritu Ranaut had said that the accused girl was getting a video call repeatedly. In such a situation, the girl was asked to send a porn video or photo to the person concerned, if it is in her phone. After the video came on the girl’s phone, the police registered a case in the matter.
