Centre’s blow to Haryana and Punjab: only Chandigarh’s name in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Airport; Not to mention Panchkula-Mohali

The central government has given a big blow to Haryana and Punjab. The name of the Union Territory of Chandigarh has been associated with Shaheed Bhagat Singh Airport on the day of airport naming. There is no mention of Panchkula and Mohali.

Earlier, Haryana has been demanding to add Panchkula to it and Punjab Mohali. However, after the name of Shaheed Bhagat Singh came up, now the governments of both the states have kept silence.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced to change the name of the airport in the ‘Mann Ki Baat’ program.

Deputy CM had sent a proposal to Panchkula
A few days ago there was a meeting between Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann and Haryana Deputy CM Dushyant Chautala. In which it was agreed to name the airport after Shaheed Bhagat Singh. Dushyant Chautala had recommended adding the name of Panchkula along with Chandigarh and Mohali. At the same time, the airport is in Mohali, so Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann wanted to add Mohali with the name of the airport.

An agreement was reached between Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann and Haryana Deputy CM Dushyant Chautala to name the airport after Shaheed Bhagat Singh.

PM Modi announced in Mann Ki Baat
It was announced by PM Narendra Modi in Mann Ki Baat program that the airport should be named after Shaheed Bhagat Singh. The PM had said that the name of the airport was being demanded for many years. This decision of PM was welcomed by the CMs of both the states. Captain raised the demand in 2017 Former Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh said that his government had taken up the matter with the Center in 2017. This decision of the Center is correct. This is a tribute to Shaheed Bhagat Singh.

Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann and Haryana Deputy CM Dushyant Chautala had sent a proposal to change the name of the airport to the Center after a meeting with the officials of both the states.

Runway at Chandigarh, Terminal Mohali
Chandigarh International Airport Limited is a Joint Venture Company incorporated under the Companies Act, 2013 by the Airports Authority of India in association with the Governments of Punjab and Haryana. The airport’s runway is located in Chandigarh, while the international terminal is located in the village of Mohali. Air traffic control and runway operations are with the IAF.

International airport built in 2015
Chandigarh Aviation Area is located in the major city of North India, Chandigarh. Earlier there was no customs here. Also its system was not mechanical. Its flight length is 9000 feet. In 2015, it became an international airport after extensive improvements in facilities and area expansion.

Chandigarh Airport got permission for international flights in 2014.

In June 2014, the Central Government allowed aviation companies to undertake international flights from Chandigarh Airport. The airport started operations as an international airport on 11 September 2015. It was inaugurated by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi.
