The insurance scam case pertains to the time when Malik was the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir from 23 August 2018 to 30 October 2019.
The CBI on Wednesday raided the premises of former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik. The action is related to the insurance scam during Malik’s tenure as the governor of Jammu and Kashmir. CBI is conducting raids at 9 locations in Jammu-Kashmir and Delhi. It also includes the house of Sunak Bali, Malik’s media advisor.
The matter came to light when Satya Pal Malik was the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir from 23 August 2018 to 30 October 2019. He was offered a bribe of Rs 300 crore to clear two files during his tenure. Malik himself had complained about the scam. After this the CBI had registered the case. The probe agency had also recently recorded the statement of Satya Pal Malik.
What is insurance scam case
Malik never spoke openly about the two files he mentioned. According to the report, Satyapal Malik was referring to a file related to the group health insurance policy brought for government employees, pensioners and journalists. This included the Anil Ambani-led Reliance General Insurance Company.
Malik canceled the deal with Reliance
Later, Malik canceled the deal with Reliance General Insurance Company in view of apprehension of some disturbance. Two days later, while giving information about this deal to the Anti-Corruption Bureau, the Governor asked them to investigate the contract to the bottom whether there was any kind of corruption in it.
Satyapal Malik has been criticizing the central government a lot. He had said this when he was the Governor of Meghalaya in 2021.
Had taken the name of RSS too, then apologized
In the insurance scam case, Malik had also taken the name of RSS in a program. He mentioned this on 17 October last year at a felicitation ceremony in Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan. During this, he had said that an office bearer of Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh (RSS) was also involved in the insurance deal.
Later, in an interview given to Bhaskar, Malik apologized to the Rashtriya Swayam Sangh (RSS). Malik said that the case of Rs 300 crore bribe being offered had nothing to do with the RSS. He made a mistake and he is apologetic.
