CBI investigation started in Balasore train accident

  • CBI begins investigation of Balasore train accident, tangled between ‘conspiracy or lapse’

Bhubaneswar. A 10-member CBI team has started probing the cause of the train accident. The CBI team has reached the spot and has started the work of scrutinizing the statements apart from the evidence. In the Balasore train accident, Railways has recommended a CBI inquiry after receiving different statements regarding signal system tampering, human error and other points.

Signal Board of Bahanaga Bazar Station

There is a lot of pressure on the CBI, which is looking for the reasons for the collision of three trains in Balasore, in which 275 people died and thousands were injured. There is a conflict within the railway officials regarding the causes of the accident. S&T department is under pressure then operating aggressive then engineering silent. Everyone is silent about the reasons for the accident. The CBI team that reached the spot will try to find out what was the real reason behind the train collision. It was human error. Or was it executed under a conspiracy?

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav had even said that this accident happened due to change in the signaling system. The reasons and responsible have been identified and it will be disclosed soon. Now the question arises that what did the Railway Minister feel that he suddenly recommended a CBI inquiry?

A CBI spokesperson said that case number 64, registered in Balasore, relating to the derailment of Coromandel Express, Yesvantpur-Howrah Express and goods train at Bahanaga Bazar in Odisha on June 2, has been taken over. The railway team has already registered the investigation and statement, the drivers of both the trains and the assistant station master have been interrogated. Initial investigation has identified interlocking and change of points.

A former official associated with the Vande Bharat scheme has clarified that the incident did not happen due to the failure of signalling. He told that there could be many other reasons for the accident, including conspiracy and lapse in repair etc. He clarified that in the situation that has come to the fore so far, there is no sign of signaling floor. Now since the CBI investigation has started after CRS, it is too early to say anything in this matter.

On the other hand, Railway Safety Commissioner Shailesh Kumar Pathak reached Bahanaga Bazar station on June 6, 2023 and checked signaling to points etc. He also recorded the statement of the railwaymen. Investigation revealed that there was a fault in the electronic interlocking system. Without tampering, it is not possible that after giving signal for main line, the fixed route turns into loop line. Many facts and information have also come to the fore in the investigation of the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS).

The Railway Ministry is in a quandary after the Balasore train accident. The Railway Minister himself is present on the spot and is closely monitoring the process of restoration of traffic. From the exercise so far in the Railways, the same situation is coming out that the fault in the signaling system was the cause of the accident, either it was human error or it happened due to tampering with the system! Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav had even said that this accident happened due to change in the signaling system. The reasons and responsible have been identified and it will be disclosed soon. Now the question arises that what did the Railway Minister feel that he suddenly recommended a CBI inquiry?
