The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday registered a case against British Broadcasting Company (BBC) India for violation of foreign exchange norms. This case has been registered under the Foreign Exchange Management Act ie FEMA. According to media reports, ED is investigating foreign remittances of BBC. Also asked to give financial statement.

In February too, the Income Tax Department had conducted a survey in the premises of BBC in New Delhi, Mumbai. The tax department’s action was taken on allegations of loopholes in international taxation and transfer pricing. The British Broadcasting Corporation is the national broadcaster of the United Kingdom. It has about 35 thousand employees all over the world. It publishes news in 40 languages.

How is BBC funded and earned?
Most of the BBC’s funding comes from annual television fees. Apart from this, it also earns from its other companies, such as BBC Studios and BBC Studioworks. The Parliament of Britain also grants it. In the year 2022, the company suffered a major setback when the government announced a moratorium on annual television fees for the next 2 years.

BBC released the first episode of ‘The Modi Question’ documentary on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on YouTube on 17 January. The second episode was to release on January 24. The description of the first episode read that ‘this documentary investigates the claims of Narendra Modi’s role in the 2002 riots in Gujarat’. It was later banned in India.
