A local court in Pune has sent Kalicharan Maharaj alias Abhijit Dhananjay to one-day police custody in a hate speech case. Kalicharan was arrested in a case in Raipur. He had allegedly made a derogatory statement against Mahatma Gandhi.

On Tuesday, a Raipur court had given two-day transit remand to the Maharashtra Police to Kalicharan, who was trapped in the case of making objectionable remarks on Mahatma Gandhi in the Parliament of Religions held in Chhattisgarh. Police will bring him to Raipur before January 13. Kalicharan was taken by road under special security. Cases are also registered against him in some other cities including Raipur and Pune.

According to Police Commissioner Amitabh Gupta, Kalicharan Maharaj has been arrested on the basis of an FIR registered a few days ago at Khadak police station in Pune. A case has also been registered against Kalicharan for trying to create tension between two religions on social media.

Pune Police team was in Raipur for 5 days
The team of Khadak police station was camping in Raipur for about 5 days. About a dozen police personnel had arrived in two vehicles to pick up Kalicharan. Maharashtra Police team was making constant efforts to take Kalicharan Maharaj on remand. Earlier on Monday, Maharashtra Police had applied for transit remand in Raipur Court, but it was rejected. The application was again made in the court on Tuesday. After this, the court of Magistrate Bhupendra Kumar Wasnikar issued orders to hand over Kalicharan on transit remand. After this, the officer reached the jail with a copy of the order.

Police officers took Kalicharan to Maharashtra by road. Two teams of Raipur Police were sent along with Maharashtra Police till the city border so that the officials of Maharashtra Police should not face any problem in leaving the city. Now before January 13, Maharashtra Police will bring Kalicharan again to Raipur.

Raipur Police arrested Kalicharan from Khajuraho in Madhya Pradesh. After this, he was presented in the court and taken on remand and then sent to jail. It is being told that Kalicharan’s lawyers are preparing to file a petition in the High Court for bail.
