Captain had contested elections as a separate army
Captain Amarinder Singh formed a separate party after leaving the Congress. He contested the Punjab Assembly elections under the name of Punjab Lok Congress Party. In which he had an alliance with the BJP. However they did not get success. He himself lost the Patiala seat along with party candidates.

Most of the Congressmen joined the BJP
After Captain Amarinder Singh left the Congress, a large number of Congressmen were expected to join him. However this did not happen. Fatehjung Bajwa and Rana Gurmeet Sodhi, who were Congress MLAs, joined the BJP before the elections. Veteran Sunil Jakhar also switched to BJP after the elections. After this, former Congress ministers Gurpreet Kangar, Sham Sundar Arora, Rajkumar Verka and Balbir Sidhu also joined BJP. Most of the Congressmen remained close to the Capt.

Congress suddenly removed from the chair
Captain Amarinder Singh was suddenly removed from the CM’s chair by the Congress in September last year. The Captain left the Congress, terming it as an insult. However, after the removal of Captain, the Congress got a crushing defeat in the assembly elections. Navjot Sidhu, under whose pressure the Captain was acted upon, lost the election. After Captain Charanjit Channi, who became the CM, also lost the elections from 2 seats. In 2017, the Congress with 77 seats was reduced to 18 seats. Many veteran Congressmen got stacked in front of the novice candidate of Aam Aadmi Party.

MP wife will also enter BJP
With the merger of Captain’s party, his MP wife Preneet Kaur may also enter the BJP. However, a decision will be taken after the Captain’s discussion with the BJP in this regard.
