Following the BJP’s allegations, the Aam Aadmi Party had claimed that it was a dilapidated structure built in 1942 and was in need of repair.

In the midst of the reconstruction dispute of Arvind Kejriwal’s official bungalow, now government auditor CAG will start its investigation. Raj Niwas officials said the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) would conduct a special inquiry into irregularities and violations during the reconstruction of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence.

Taking action on the May 24 letter of Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, the Union Home Ministry has recommended a special CAG audit. In his letter to the Ministry of Home Affairs on May 24, Saxena said irregularities were exposed by the media, following which the Delhi chief secretary submitted a report on April 27 and again on May 12.

According to these reports, Rs 33.49 crore was spent on Kejriwal’s house, while Rs 19.22 crore was spent on his office and his old bungalow was demolished and a new bungalow was built.

BJP leader Tejinder Bagga shared this photo of Arvind Kejriwal's new bungalow. He called it Sheeshmahal.

  • Initially, the Chief Minister’s residence was to be constructed separately, however, later the minister approved the proposal of completely new construction by removing the existing building.
  • The initial cost of this work was 15 to 20 crores, but it was increased from time to time.
  • A total of Rs 52 crore 71 lakh 24 thousand 570 (about Rs 53 crore) has been spent on the Chief Minister’s residence, which is more than three times the initial estimate.
  • There was also a violation of MPD-2021 i.e. Master Plan of Delhi (MPD), which is the law of the land in matters related to land.

BJP’s allegation was that 45 crores were spent on Kejriwal’s bungalow.
Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva had claimed two months ago that Rs 45 crore had been spent on decorating Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s house and office. Kejriwal does not live in a house, he lives in Sheesh Mahal. He should resign.
