What did the international referee tell the Delhi Police?
According to media reports, International referee Jagbir Singh told the police that Brij Bhushan was touching the women wrestlers with his hand and saying, ‘Come here, stand here’. At the time of the incident, Jagbir was standing at a distance from Brij Bhushan. Jagbir also referred to a photo for his statement, about which the Delhi Police had also asked him. The coach said- I did not see Brijbhushan doing much but his hands were moving a lot that day. Seeing the reaction of the wrestlers on being touched by Brij Bhushan, it seemed that they were uncomfortable. It seems that something went wrong with him during that time.
Gold medalist corroborates the claims of 2 wrestlers
In a statement to the Delhi Police, 2010 Commonwealth gold medalist Anita also corroborated the claims of the wrestlers. Anita told that the female wrestler had shared with her an incident of a tournament abroad. In which it is said that Brij Bhushan called her to the room and forcibly hugged her. Anita said that when they returned to the Patiala National Camp, the complaining wrestler broke down in front of them. He was deeply shocked when the gold medalist was called to the room at night and forcibly hugged.
After changing the statement, the father of the minor wrestler said – did it for revenge
The father of the minor wrestler, who has withdrawn the allegations of sexual abuse against Jabhushan Singh, has said that she had filed a false complaint of sexual abuse. He did this to avenge the alleged injustice done to his daughter. The father of the minor wrestler told the news agency – It is better that the truth should come out now instead of the court. The government has promised a fair probe into my daughter’s case. So I am correcting my mistake.
What is Brij Bhushan saying now in the whole matter…
Former WFI President Brij Bhushan has broken the silence for the first time in the matter of changing the statement of sexual abuse of a minor wrestler. On this question, Brij Bhushan said – “All the issues are before the court.” The government has also assured that the charge sheet will be filed by June 15. Let the charge sheet be filed. I don’t think I need to say anything now. If it is appropriate to speak, then it will also be spoken.
When asked that the minor victim’s father has filed the POCSO complaint to seek ‘revenge’ after being overlooked for selection during the camp. On this, Brij Bhushan said that this is the work of the court.
On withdrawing the statement of the minor wrestler, Brij Bhushan said that all is the work of the court.
Hearing on petition against wrestlers today
At the same time, the petition against the top wrestlers will be heard in Delhi’s Patiala House Court today. Bam Bam Maharaj filed a petition in the court saying that Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik and other wrestlers have leveled false allegations against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Brij Bhushan Singh to defame them.
That’s why a case should be registered against them. This is the second hearing in the court on this petition. Although the first date was May 25, on which the court postponed the hearing and fixed the next date as June 9.
Earlier, on May 4, 2023, the complainant had given a written complaint against the aforesaid wrestlers to the SHO, ACP and DCP of Thana Sansad Marg. Apart from this, a complaint has also been made to the Police Commissioner of Delhi. Along with this, a petition was also filed in the court through a lawyer.
What are the allegations in the petition filed against the wrestlers
1. Wrestlers gave provocative speeches from Jantar Mantar. Brijbhushan Sharan Singh has been accused of personal gain.
2. The accused wrestlers also play in international tournaments. None of them was physically or otherwise weak to resist the alleged offence. So it is hard to believe that he was harassed by a 66 year old man.
3. None of these wrestlers had previously protested against the alleged harassment, nor given any written or oral complaint or filed a case with the police station, the women’s helpline or the State Women’s Commission.
4. By demonstrating at Jantar Mantar, pressure is being created on the police and the court to act according to the wishes of the wrestlers.
On June 7, the players had reached Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur’s residence to meet him.
After Amit Shah, the wrestlers had a meeting with the Sports Minister.
In this matter, the wrestlers had a meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah late on Sunday night. After which Sports Minister Anurag Thakur had a 6-hour meeting with Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik on Wednesday. It was agreed that the Delhi Police would present the charge sheet in the matter by June 15 in the court. WFI elections will be conducted by June 30. An internal complaint committee will be formed in WFI for the complaint of women wrestlers, whose head will be a woman. It was also decided that till then the wrestlers or their supporting organizations will not protest in any way.
