Body kept for post-mortem sent to workshop, RG Kar Principal apologizes

The dead bodies kept for post-mortem at the police morgue in Arjikar Hospital went to the doctors’ workshop. After dismembering the body in the workshop, the body was brought back to the morgue and post-mortem was conducted. This unprecedented incident has created a sensation in the hospital. In this incident, Sandeep Ghosh, the principal of the hospital, has been summoned by the Health Bhavan.

A workshop of All India Association of ENT Department Doctors was held at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on 5th January. That morning, 5 dead bodies were taken from the police morgue of the hospital’s forensic department for the workshop. Later in the afternoon, the body was sent to the morgue for post-mortem. As soon as this news spread, there was an uproar in the medical community. The news reached the health center. The principal was asked why such an act was done without taking the permission of the police.

According to sources, 5 dead bodies were required for the workshop. The head of the ENT department wrote to the hospital director asking for a ‘fresh’ corpse. Granting the application, the principal directed the forensic department to give the ‘fresh’ body. On the same day, 5 bodies were sent from the morgue to the anatomy department. Workshops are conducted with autopsied bodies instead of donated bodies. In the afternoon, 5 dead bodies were returned to the morgue. Then the autopsy is done. After the autopsy, 5 dead bodies were handed over to the family.

The head of the hospital’s ENT department did not want to elaborate on why this was done.
