Tirupur: The bodies of two children, who were washed away in Parambikulam -Aliyar-Project (PAP) canal at Pongalur here on Tuesday, were retrieved on Thursday.
H Bharanidharan, 15, of Kangeyam Road and T Sharan Sanjay, 16, of RK Garden, were Class X students of KSC Government Higher Secondary School in Tirupur. According to police, the duo had left for school on Tuesday morning. “After the school hours, they went to the PAP canal along with some friends. As water was released to the canal from the Thirumurthy dam, the two boys were swept away in strong water currents. Their friends raised an alarm and tried in vain to save the duo,” a police officer said.
Though fire and rescue services personnel launched a search, it was stopped after sunset. It continued on Wednesday also, but the bodies were found floating 50km away at Vellakovil on Thursday morning. tnn
