Babri Masjid was locked since 1949 due to the controversy.

It is said that at that time more than 1.5 lakh kar sevaks were present there and in just 5 hours the Babri structure was demolished by the mob. Babri Masjid was razed to the ground at 5.5 minutes in the evening. After this communal riots broke out across the country. More than 2 thousand people were killed in these riots.

An FIR was registered in the case and 49 people were made accused. The accused included BJP and VHP leaders like LK Advani, Uma Bharti, Murli Manohar Joshi, Kalyan Singh, Champat Rai, Kamlesh Tripathi. The case continued in the court for 28 years and on September 30 this year, the CBI court in Lucknow acquitted all the accused due to lack of evidence.
