BJP has won all the three posts of Chandigarh Municipal Corporation. The Aam Aadmi Party lost the post of mayor and senior deputy mayor by just one vote. A total of 29 votes were cast in the voting held on Tuesday. In this, BJP got 15 votes and AAP got 14 votes. No cross voting took place.

BJP’s Anoop Gupta has become the new mayor. He defeated Jasbir Laddi of Aam Aadmi Party by just 1 vote. Councilors of Congress and Akali Dal remained absent from voting. MP Kirron Kher also had one vote in BJP’s victory.

Shiromani Akali Dal corporator Hardeep Singh did not cast his vote. Since 2015, no one from the Congress has been able to become mayor. At the same time, since 2016, BJP has been becoming mayor continuously.

BJP also won the post of Senior Deputy Mayor
The post of Senior Deputy Mayor has also been won by the BJP. A total of 29 votes were cast in its election as well. BJP’s Kanwarjit Rana got 15 votes. AAP’s Taruna Mehta got 14 votes. Whereas, BJP’s Harjeet Singh defeated AAP’s Suman Sharma for the post of deputy mayor.

Will improve door-to-door garbage collection
New Mayor of Chandigarh, Anup Gupta after taking over the mayor’s chair said that like the previous mayor, his tenure will also run in the direction of development. The works and achievements of the previous Mayor will be carried forward. The cleanliness of Chandigarh will be further improved.

He said that door-to-door garbage collection would be further improved. At the same time, the parking lots in the city will be smart and will be linked to FASTag. Parks will be further developed and maintained. Village roads and sewerage system will be strengthened. He has assured to complete this work in this year itself.

Congress went with mandate
Congress chief Harmohinder Singh Lucky has already made it clear that like last time, Congress has walked out from the mayoral elections this time too. The Congress has made it clear that it will continue to raise the issues of the people of the city by sitting in the opposition. All the 6 counselors of the party are still out of station.

Camped in Punjab, Haryana, Himachal
After filing nominations on January 12, AAP and BJP including Congress went on tour to protect their councilors from contact with other parties. He had camped in Punjab, Haryana and Himachal. The Congress had taken its Kufri tour to the court of Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu. AAP’s counselors stayed at a resort in Ropar. At the same time, the BJP had moved ahead of Morni to Kumarhati in Himachal.
