bjp: Uttar Pradesh: JP Nadda campaigns in Hathras, skips visit to murder-rape victim’s village | Agra News – Times of India

AGRA: Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) national president JP Nadda on Sunday conducted a door-to-door campaign and addressed the ‘Prabhavi Matdata Samvad’ in Hathras. He, however, skipped a visit to the village of the 19-year-old rape and murder victim whose death hogged headlines last year, despite being barely 5 kilometres away from the site.
“His visit could have assuaged our feelings but it doesn’t matter now since he skipped coming. We only have faith in the judiciary and expect justice,” said the victim’s brother. The victim’s family has been under CRPF protection for the past year. They have lost sources of income since the incident.
Lawyer-turned-politician Seema Kushwaha, who is representing the victim, said, “The victim was forcefully cremated under the BJP-ruled government, which claims that women are secure in the state. Nadda should have met the family and assured them of help.”
“Unfortunately, the family did not get a government job nor a house despite being promised the same by the CM,” Kushwaha claimed.
The victim’s brother confirmed that no BJP leader, including the party’s local candidate Anjula Mahor, had visited their house.
While Mahor is the lone woman candidate from Hathras, she has so far stayed away from the family despite making the issue of women security a major poll plank for herself and her party.
Talking to TOI, Mahor said, “Women safety is a major issue for the BJP. The Yogi-led government has given a sense of security to women across the state.” She claimed that the village where the family of the rape victim lives doesn’t fall under her constituency. However, she assured the family of any help they need.
“It was an unfortunate incident and we feel sad about it but the BJP government did everything they could for them. The accused were immediately arrested and remanded to judicial custody and financial help was also provided to the family,” she said.
Bahujan Samaj Party candidate from Hathras, Sanjeev Kumar Kala said that if the BJP was concerned about women security then they should have shown some sympathy to the family of the victim and visited them.” “BJP leaders only show off, they never commit,” he claimed.
The case involved the alleged gang-rape and murder of the Dalit teenager by four upper-caste men in her village. She was cremated by cops without her family’s consent, evoking national outcry.
