bjp: ‘schemes For Religious Minorities Played Key Role In Bjp Civic Poll Win’ | Guwahati News – Times of India

Guwahati: BJP’s initiatives for the welfare of “religious minority” people along with other communities after it came to power for the second term last year have helped the party win a number of municipal wards, where they have dominance, said Jayanta Malla Baruahpolitical secretary to chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
BJP’s performance in the “religious minority” majority areas was dismal in last year’s assembly elections, following which the party had dissolved its minority wing. Incidentally, the party has made a comeback in the municipal elections in those areas and won nearly 20 such wards.
Baruah said, “BJP’s fight is not against religious minorities, but against a particular ideology. BJP is fighting for civilization and culture. The opposition parties had tried to do politics over religion. They succeeded to some extent but failed to prevent the BJP from coming to power. Religious minorities have also understood that development is possible, and their future is safe and secure only under the rule of BJP in the state.”
BJP won several important municipal wards in areas dominated by the religious minority communities, including in Dhing, Goalpara and Rangia.
The party’s Assam president, Bhabesh Kalita, on Wednesday said, “Winning a number of Congress-held municipal boards, including Karimganj, Lala and Golaghat, and a few boards in immigrant minority-dominated areas is a major success for the ruling BJP in Assam ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.”
BJP also captured Sarbhog and Barpeta municipal boards, where CPM had a stronghold.
