Birbhum killings: CBI to probe TMC leader’s murder

The Calcutta High Court ordered a CBI investigation into the murder of Trinamool Congress leader Bhadu Sheikh, in apparent retaliation to which nine people were burnt to death in West Bengal’s Birbhum district. The high court had earlier ordered a CBI investigation into the killings of the nine people at Bogtui village.

The CBI, in its report, suggested that prima facie, the incident in which nine villagers were burnt to death in Birbhum was the “direct fall out” of the killing of TMC panchayat leader Bhadu Sheikh, who was murdered in Bogtui village the same night.

According to a report submitted by the CBI before the Caclutta High Court, the incident was an “outcome of the rivalry amongst the members of two groups in the village” and that the burning of the houses was a “retaliatory plan”.
