Bihar: Upset by family dispute, BJP leader Rashmi Varma announces her resignation as MLA | Patna News – Times of India

Patna: BJP leader Rashmi Varma on Sunday announced her resignation as the member of the Bihar legislative assembly, citing “personal reasons”.
She is the MLA from Narkatiyaganj in West Champaran district.
In a letter addressed to the Bihar Vidhan Sabha speaker, Varma has said she is resigning as the member of the state legislative assembly due to personal reasons. She has urged the speaker to accept her resignation. Varma has put the date of January 9, 2022 on her resignation letter.
The news about the Narkatiyaganj MLA resignation came into light on Sunday afternoon after her photo went viral on social media platforms in which she can be seen displaying her one-page resignation letter.
Reacting over the development, BJP state president Sanjay Kumar Jaiswal said Varma wrote her resignation letter after being upset by the comment of a member of her family. “She wrote the resignation letter because of the family problem, and the matter is not related to politics. I spoke to her over the matter of resignation. She was going to the state capital to submit her resignation letter to the assembly speaker. But now, she is returning to Bettiah, her district headquarters,” Jaiswal said.
On being asked that Varma has leveled charges of “arbitrariness” against police administration, Jaiswal said, “It was because of the family dispute. She had some property-related dispute in her family, so she raised suspicion on the role of police. … If something is controversial, the solution will come from the level of higher officers. If she has any talk with junior police officers or constables, she should resolved the issue by meeting the superintendent of police.”
When contacted, the assembly speaker Vijay Kumar Sinha said he had no information about Varma’s resigning as the MLA. “I have neither received any resignation letter from Rashmi Varma, nor have any information about such letter. The speaker’s office and the assembly are currently closed in the wake of fresh rise in the cases of covid-19. My office has not received a resignation letter from Varma,” speaker Sinha told TOI on Sunday.
Sinha also pointed out that, “If a member desires to resign as the MLA, she/ he shall intimate in writing to the speaker by personally meeting the latter.” Varma has so far not submitted her resignation letter, Sinha said.
Quoting the rules of the assembly, Sinha also pointed out that even If the speaker receives the letter of resignation, he (speaker) may make such inquiry as he thinks fit to satisfy himself that the resignation is voluntary and genuine. If the speaker, after making a summary enquiry either himself or through the agency of Vidhan Sabha secretariat or through such other agency, as he may deem fit, is satisfied that the resignation is not voluntary or genuine he shall not accept the resignation.
Varma could not be reached for her comment despite repeated attempts on her mobile number.
