Bhubaneswar: Temperature plummets to 10 degrees Celsius | Bhubaneswar News – Times of India

BHUBANESWAR: The minimum temperature plummeted to 10 degrees Celsius in the city on Tuesday for the first time this season affecting lives while Daringbadi shivered at the day’s lowest of 3.5 degrees Celsius.
The fall in the mercury level in the city amid cold wave like conditions was 5.2 degrees below the normal. It was also the third lowest temperature recorded in the city in the last 10 years during December, said Umashankar Das, a scientist of the regional IMD centre here.
The India Meteorological Department said the all-time lowest temperature recorded in the city was 8.2 degrees Celsius on December 30, 2018. The IMD report said the minimum temperature dropped to 9.8 degrees Celsius on December 31, 2019. It said in 2020 the lowest temperature recorded was 11.7 degrees Celsius.
“I skipped my morning walk as it was too cold, ” said Hadibandhu Patnaik, a resident. Similarly, a parent said he got late in dropping his son at school.
People were also affected at Daringbadi in Kandhamal district due to the severe cold.
The IMD report said on Tuesday 17 more places recorded temperatures below 10 degrees Celsius
Bhawanipatna at 6 degrees Celsius saw the highest fall of 6.6 degrees below the normal in the state.
The IMD forecast said there would be no respite from the cold wave for at least the next three days. Thereafter night temperature may see a rise by two to three degrees Celsius, the forecast said.
Das said northwesterly and northerly dry and cold winds aided the sharp drop in mercury level across the state.
He said the minimum temperature during the next three days would be below the normal by five to six degrees Celsius in coastal Odisha and four to five degrees Celsius in interior Odisha.
The IMD forecast for Wednesday said cold wave conditions are likely to prevail over isolated places in selected districts till Thursday morning.
Former director of the regional IMD centre Sarat Sahu said parts of Odisha may witness light to moderate rainfall for three days from December 29. “This would be due to a western disturbance,” said Sahu, now the director of the Centre for Environment and Climate at Siksha O Anusandhan deemed to be university.
