Bharat Bandh: Several organisations, including lakhs of Congress workers on Monday, will hold protests as they have called for a bandh against the new recruitment policy in the Indian armed forces. The protests, which have been continuing for the past few days instilled damage to railway stations, trains, and buses, among other public properties. On Sunday, addressing the youth of the country, the Defence Ministry had explained the policy in detail but ruled out any rollback of the scheme. The Army, Navy and the Air Force came out with a broad schedule of enrolment of soldiers under the new policy and asserted that it is the only way to bring down the age profile of the three services. On Sunday, Congress MPs and leaders too sat on a ‘Satyagraha’ at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar in solidarity with the youths protesting the Agnipath scheme. Congress leaders and supporters criticised the BJP-led central government and said that the Agnipath scheme is not beneficial for the country’s youth and also jeopardises national security.
