The BJP on Saturday hit out at West Bengal Minister Akhil Giri alleging he “threatened” a woman Forest Officer for performing her duty to remove illegal encroachment in forest areas. In a social media post, BJP West Bengal shared a video of Giri yelling at the woman Forest officer.

The West Bengal Minister allegedly told the woman official, “You are a government employee, bow down your head (in front of me) while speaking”, “See what happens to you within a week” and “I will beat you with a stick”, as per the BJP.

“Will Mamata Banerjee dare to throw out this Minister and put him behind bars? Will charges be filed against him for obstructing government workers and outraging the modesty of women? Let’s see if this goon is kicked inside the jail for threatening to indirectly kill and outrage the modesty of a woman,” the X post by BJP further read.

TMC leader Kunal Ghosh condemned Giri’s behaviour calling it “undesirable” but stressed that the BJP has “no right speak about it since they have done much uglier things”.

“Opposing the words and behaviour of Minister Akhil Giri. It is undesirable. If he had something to say about the forest department, the minister could have told Birbaha Hansda. Instead, the mistreatment of the female officer is unfortunate. But CPM and BJP have no right to say about it. They have done much uglier things over and over again,” Ghosh wrote in an X post.
