Coimbatore: Electricity minister V Senthil Balaji on Thursday interviewed the candidates for the urban local body elections here.
The interview, held at a marriage hall in the presence of former minister Pongalur Palaniswamy and party district unit secretaries, was attended by about 300 DMK men and women, who had applied to contest in Coimbatore corporation as well as municipalities and town panchayats in the district. They were made to assemble in the hall maintaining Covid norms and were summoned to a room where they were interviewed one by one.
Party sources said that they were asked about their contributions to the party, welfare activities they had done in their locality and DMK’s chances of victory in their wards. Their reputation was gauged by the votes bagged by those who had contested in local body elections in the past.
