Uttarakhand Police has banned Bakrid prayers in Badrinath. The police said in the meeting of the peace committee – all the people of the Muslim community here should go to Joshimath, 40 km away, and offer namaz. KC Bhatt, station in-charge of Badrinath, said – The people of Muslim society do not live here permanently.

The station in-charge said that people from the minority community living in Badrinath include migrant labourers, who are working on reconstruction projects. A meeting was held on Tuesday with members of the minority community and contractors engaged in the projects, in which it was collectively decided that Bakrid prayers would be offered at Joshimath and not at Badrinath.

President of Badrish Panda Panchayat Praveen Dhyani said that no one has any objection to offering Namaz outside the city. In a meeting held at the Badrinath police station, people from all communities agreed to maintain the dignity of the city. The Muslim community assured that they would go to Joshimath to offer Bakrid prayers.

Panda society and pilgrimage priests had warned
Two days ago, Panda Samaj and Teerth Purohits in Badrinath had warned that they would launch agitation if Bakrid was celebrated in Badrinath area or Hanuman Chatti. It was the Panda Samaj that suggested the people of the Muslim community to go to Joshimath and celebrate Bakrid.

Tension since the incident of kidnapping of Hindu girl
Last month, a Hindu girl was abducted in Purola, Uttarakhand. The blame for this was on a Muslim youth. There was a lot of tension in the area due to this. As the uproar escalated, more than 20 Muslim families had left Purola.

In 2021, there was a video of offering Namaz near Badrinath temple
In the year 2021, 15 Muslim laborers offered Namaz near Badrinath temple. Its video also went viral. These laborers were working on a parking facility project one km away from the temple.

Due to staying at the site itself, on the day of Bakrid, everyone had offered Namaz there early in the morning. After the video surfaced, there was tension in the area.

Later, the police registered a case under the Pandemic Act against the contractor and laborers for breaking the Corona rules.
