Assam Police’s ultimatum-fit in 3 months or retire: BMI of police personnel will also be recorded; Exemption for those with medical condition

After policemen addicted to drinking alcohol, now unfit policemen have come on the radar of Assam Police. Assam Police will keep an official record of obese policemen. For this, their body mass index (BMI) will be taken. This step is being taken to rid the policemen of deadwood. Significantly, there is about 70 thousand force in Assam Police.

Unfit personnel have been given an ultimatum of 3 months. Also, it has been said that get fit in 3 months or else retire. After three months the Body Mass Index (BMI) of all IPS officers and police personnel will be recorded.

DG’s BMI will be the first record
Director General of Police GP Singh wrote in a tweet – We will give three months time till August 15 to all Assam Police personnel including IPS-APS officers. After this, there is a plan to verify BMI in the next fifteen days. All those policemen who are in the obese category (BMI30+) will be given three more months to lose weight. After this, you will be asked to take Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS).

Morigaon police personnel conducted a PT parade on Tuesday morning under the guidance of ADL SP Suprativ Lal Baruah.

DG GP Singh said, only those policemen who have real medical problems like hypothyroidism will be exempted. GP Singh will be the first person to take BMI on 16th August.

List of 680 unfit or drinker policemen ready
DGP Assam said last week that they have made a list of over 680 policemen who are addicted to alcohol or are obese. Out of these, those found unfit to perform duty will be offered voluntary retirement after observation.

Battalion and district committees have been formed to ensure that no policeman’s name is added without factual checking. They will be headed by deputy commandants or additional SP-rank officers. Those whose names are in the list but do not want to take VRS will not be given field duty

What is body mass index
BMI i.e. Body Mass Index, tells whether your body weight is right according to your height i.e. length or not. In a way, it can be called the ratio of your body length and weight. The BMI of a normal body should not exceed 22.1.

Policemen taking VRS will continue to get full salary
The process of giving VRS to policemen in Assam has started 15 days back. These policemen will continue to get full salary. At the same time, 300 new recruitments will be done on vacant posts after retirement. At the same time, many policemen have also been suspended in the state for consuming alcohol while on duty.
