GUWAHATI: With more than 2,000 cases still being reported daily, the path of recovery of Covid is still almost three weeks away as compared to Delhi.
Health experts said the number of new cases has remained stable over the past few days. “There is a decreasing trend in Covid cases if we analyze the scenario from April onwards when the graph shooting of Covid started. But it has to be kept in mind that comparatively small state like state Assam Adding 2,000 to 3,000 cases a day to the all-India figure of around 50,000. It can be concluded that Assam is not on the safe side,” said a senior health official.
He said that looking at the current trend, the state’s daily positive cases may drop below 2,000 by June 30 and may come down to 1,000 per day by July 15. However, the biggest concern is the ‘changing pattern’ of virus infection.
“Kamrup (metropolitan) district, which covers state capital Guwahati, was showing the highest number of cases in the last 10 days. But now, it has overtaken rural districts. This is the biggest concern at the moment,” he said. said. He said that the situation in Sonitpur, Golaghat, Dibrugarh and Tinsukia was a matter of greater concern than the city itself.
Assam on Wednesday registered 2,728 new cases at a positivity rate of 1.64% after 1.66 lakh tests. This was a slight improvement as compared to the 2,869 positive cases detected on the previous day when the positivity rate stood at 1.88%. Kamrup (Metropolitan) district reported 187 positive cases in the last 24 hours, which health officials said is under control. The death toll from Kovid on Wednesday was 30, while the recovery rate was 92.63%.
Assam said, “In the third week of May, we had around 5,500 cases per day, but now it has come down to 3,000. We still have a long way to go.” Family Director Lakshmanan S.
Even though the number of cases has not come down drastically in districts that are reporting more cases, the possibility of measures like lockdown in some districts has been a major concern after Thursday’s cabinet meeting. Government sources told TOI that considering the financial difficulties faced by the poor and the business community, the state cabinet can only go for micro-level containment measures. A senior government official said, “Districts which are still reporting high number of cases may have strict restrictions at select blocks and panchayat level. But there is no possibility of complete lockdown in all sensitive districts.”
