Amarinder may be the next Governor of Maharashtra: After Koshyari, discussion of responsibility to Captain; Punjab rally of January 29 canceled

Former Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh may become the next Governor of Maharashtra. There has been a lot of political discussion in Punjab regarding this. Captain has already joined BJP some time back. He also merged his party Punjab Lok Congress (PLC) with the BJP.

The present Governor of Maharashtra, Bhagat Singh Koshyari has expressed his desire to step down. After which the round of discussions about the Captain has started. The retired Captain from the Army has good relations with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Recently he has been included in the 83 member National Executive of BJP.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah had a rally in Patiala on 29 January. Complete preparations had been made for this. Captain Amarinder Singh was about to show his strength again in Punjab through this rally. Through this rally, BJP had to blow the bugle of Lok Sabha in Punjab. However, suddenly this rally was postponed. After which the discussion gained momentum that something is brewing inside the BJP regarding Captain.

Amarinder was ill when the name was floated for the Vice President
Captain Amarinder Singh’s name also came up for discussion for the post of Vice President earlier. However, later BJP made Jagdeep Dhankhar the candidate for this post. At that time Captain was undergoing treatment abroad. Till then the Captain had kept his party separate as well. However, now Captain has come directly to BJP.

Succeeded in defeating Congress in Punjab
Congress removed Captain from the post of Chief Minister 3 months before the Punjab assembly elections. Captain left Congress and joined hands with BJP. After that Captain could not show any charisma in the election. BJP could not win more seats. The Captain himself also lost the election from Patiala. However, the BJP managed to oust the Congress from power in Punjab.

Political journey of Captain of Punjab
Captain Amarinder Singh has been the MLA from Patiala and the President of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee. He previously served as the Chief Minister of Punjab from 2002 to 2007. His father was the last Maharaja of Patiala State. Captain Amarinder Singh has also served in the Indian Army from 1963 to 1966.

Former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley was defeated
In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the Congress fielded Captain Amarinder Singh on the Amritsar seat. In front of him was former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley. Defeating him, the Captain became an MP, but resigned before the 2017 Punjab Assembly elections. He was elected the Chief Minister of Punjab after the Congress victory in 2017.
