When Akhilesh was born on 1 July 1973 in Saifai, Mulayam Singh Yadav’s special friend Pradhan Darshan Singh Yadav named him Tipu. The villagers did not understand this name, then when Darshan told them about Tipu Sultan, then everyone understood. When Akhilesh was 5 years old, his uncle Prof. Ram Gopal Yadav took them to St. Mary’s School for admission.

When the teacher Om Prakash Raghuvanshi started filling the form in the school, asked what is the name, Ramgopal said, “Write Tipu.” The school staff was surprised to see Tipu and Ramgopal. Then Mulayam Singh was asked over the phone and he said, “Ask Tipu only.” Tipu was given four choices of names. Tipu chose the name Akhilesh and got the same name entered in the form. From this day Tipu became Akhilesh. Ramgopal has written this in his book ‘Rajneeti Ke Us Paar’.

When Akhilesh saw Dimple for the first time, he liked her. Dimple was only 17 years old at that time. The two also talked for a while. This conversation was about studies and family. After this meeting, Dimple went to Lucknow University to study commerce. Akhilesh reached Sydney University in Australia to study environmental engineering.

Went to Sydney but didn’t forget Dimple
When Akhilesh was in Sydney, Dimple could not talk on the phone. He used to write letters to them. Dimple also used to reply to his letter by writing a letter. However, it is not mentioned in any book related to Akhilesh. When Akhilesh came back from Sydney, both of them had made up their mind to get married. Mulayam Singh did not agree to this. There were three reasons for his disapproval.

  1. Dimple was a Rajput, not a Yadav caste.
  2. Dimple was from Uttarakhand. At that time, Uttarakhand was agitating for the demand for a separate state.
  3. Mulayam Singh wanted Akhilesh to get married to Lalu Yadav’s daughter Misa Bharti.

After about 3 months, Mulayam Singh finally agreed to make Dimple his daughter-in-law. Akhilesh and Dimple got married on 24 November 1999. Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the Prime Minister of that time, also reached the wedding. At that time SP was the opposition party in UP.

Mulayam’s call came when he reached Dehradun for a holiday.
After marriage, Akhilesh and Dimple went to Dehradun for a holiday in December 1999. While both were shopping in a mall in Dehradun, Akhilesh got a call from Mulayam Singh. He said, you have to contest elections. Before Akhilesh could answer yes or no, the phone got disconnected. Akhilesh entered politics by registering victory in the by-elections held in the Kannauj seat in the year 1999.

In 2004, Akhilesh Yadav again contested from Kannauj Lok Sabha seat. He defeated Rajesh Singh of BSP by 3 lakh 7 thousand votes. The winning streak continued in 2009 as well and this time he defeated Mahesh Chandra Verma of BSP by a margin of 1 lakh 15 thousand votes. In the 2012 assembly elections, Akhilesh campaigned around the state. The result was that for the first time the SP was successful in forming a government of full majority in UP. Out of 403, 224 seats were won.

Akhilesh Yadav became the Chief Minister of the state at the age of 38. Earlier, at the age of 39, Mayawati became the Chief Minister of the state. After becoming the Chief Minister, the graph of Akhilesh’s political life started falling continuously. In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the SP won only 5 seats. In the 2017 assembly elections, the SP was reduced from 224 to just 47 seats. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the party won only 5 seats. Dimple Yadav lost the election from Kannauj. In the 2022 assembly elections, once again under the leadership of Akhilesh, the SP was left behind.

After all this, Akhilesh started getting the tag of an air-conditioner leader. However, there was no effect in his gesture. In 2018, he went to a news channel program. When it came to the Anti-Romeo Squad, Akhilesh jokingly said, “The way the Anti-Romeo Squad is raining batons on the youths who love them in UP, Yogi ji does not allow me to get married.”
