Airtel Is Shutting Down Its Music App: What Happens To The Paid Users? – News18

Airtel is shutting down its streaming app but is that bad for its users?

Airtel launched its music streaming app back in 2014 but now its subscribers will be eager to see what they get as a replacement for their money.

Airtel users have been informed that its Wynk Music app will be shutting down which means their default source of music is going away later this year. Wynk has been around for many years and was seen as a rival to Gaana from Times Internet and JioSavvn among others.

But Airtel feels that it is time to cull the product and bring a more appealing prospect for its premium broadband and mobile customers by the end of this year. “We can confirm that we will sunset Wynk Music and all Wynk Music employees will be absorbed within the Airtel ecosystem,” the telco has been quoted saying in multiple reports this week.

Airtel Wynk Shut Down – What Happens Now

Wynk Premium is a paid version of the music streaming app for which Airtel users were paying a monthly fee. What happens to their services and what can they use instead of the platform that will soon be shut down? That’s probably the good news out of this development, as Airtel has joined hands with Apple for its TV+ and Apple Music services that will be bundled to premium plans for Airtel subscribers.

Apple Music For All?

It seems the telco will migrate the Wynk Premium users to Apple Music but it will be interesting to see how it plans to make this change for Android users who have a wide range of streaming options to consider that work better than Apple Music on the platform. Wynk was launched back in 2014 and looks like the 10 year operation will finally come to an end.

Airtel is also tipped to offer Apple Music and TV+ for select postpaid and broadband plans but we will have to wait till the end of the year to get more details about which plans will be eligible for such offerings.

Apple Music and TV+ in India have been available for just Rs 99 per month since their debut, but partnering with Airtel means the company can expect more people to join its user base in the country as it looks to compete with other streaming giants.
