The nomination of Indian American Ravi Chaudhary, as assistant secretary of the Air Force for installations, energy, and the environment, has been sent to the US Senate last week for approval.
US President Joe Biden had nominated Dr Chaudhary, a former US Air Force officer and pilot, in October. If confirmed, Chaudhary will be yet another high-profile person of Indian origin in the Biden administration.
A resident of Virginia, Chaudhary was a senior official in the Barack Obama administration having served as a member of the President’s advisory commission on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. He advised President Obama on executive branch efforts to improve veterans support for the AAPI community.
He has also held top positions in the US Federal Aviation Administration including as director, advanced programmes and innovation, office of commercial space transportation, where he reported directly to the associate administrator for commercial space, responsible for the execution of advanced development and research programmes in support of the FAA’s commercial space transportation mission.
Chaudhary had previously also served as a senior executive at the US department of transportation where he was executive director, regions and centre operations, responsible for integration and support of aviation operations in nine regions located across America.
Between 1993 and 2015, Chaudhary was on active duty in the Air Force. He has conducted combat missions including several in Iraq and Afghanistan. He is an alum of Georgetown University, St. Mary’s University and US Air Force Academy.
