After He Quit As Indian Forest Officer, Prateek Jain Got AIR 86 In UPSC And Became IAS – News18

Prateek is currently working as Chief Development Officer (CDO) in the Haridwar district of Uttarakhand.

UPSC Civil Services Examination is a coveted and one of the most difficult tests in India. The participants require intensive preparation to clear this exam. Many of them manage to crack it with their relentless efforts and one of them is Indian Administrative Officer Prateek Jain of the 2018 batch.

Prateek initially worked as an Indian Forest Service officer but then went on to clear the UPSC exam in 2017 on his second attempt. His All-India Rank was 86. Prateek completed his education at renowned institutions like Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and BITS (Birla Institute of Technology and Science) Pilani.

Prateek Jain is currently working as Chief Development Officer (CDO) in the Haridwar district of Uttarakhand. He cleared the prelims and main examination on his first attempt in 2016. He failed to make it to the final merit list but passed the Indian Forest Service (IFoS) examination in the same year with the rank of 3. Prateek worked for a year as an Indian Forest Officer.

He had completed his Bachelor of Engineering honours in Mechanical Engineering from BITS Pilani. He finished his Master of Science honours from the same institution in Biological Science. Prateek then went on to acquire a Master’s degree in Public Management from the Jawaharlal Nehru University in 2020.

Prateek initially worked as the Deputy Collector of the Haridwar district, from December 2019 to August 2020. He then went on to take charge as CDO Haridwar. He has also served as Deputy Collector and SDM in Nainital district for almost two years.

Prateek talked about his preparation strategies and other aspects in an earlier interview with a portal. He was asked what was his style of preparation and note making. Prateek said, “I read standard books multiple times and made very short notes(10-20 pages per book) a month before the Pre/Main Exam which helped me with the final revision. I also used Evernote to make current affairs notes.”
