African footballer dies after falling from local train

The African footballer died after falling from a train at Sealdah Main Branch. The accident took place between Kharada and Titagarh stations in North 24 Parganas on Saturday. The deceased was identified as Quadio Matthews, a resident of Ivory Coast in West Africa. Police have started investigation into the incident.

According to police sources, Matthew came to India from West Africa to play football. He lived in Ashoknagar of North 24 Parganas. From there he used to travel to Kolkata Maidan regularly. On Saturday he went to Kolkata to buy football equipment. Accident happened on the way back.

Witnesses said the footballer fell from a crowded train between lines 2 and 3. The locals rescued him and took him to BN Basu Hospital. He died after undergoing treatment there for some time.

According to police sources, the passport of the slain footballer has been recovered. He is a citizen of Ivory Coast. He is mentioned in the passport as a player. North 24 Parganas district police is contacting the foreign ministry to send news to the family.
