Actress Rupa Dutta Who Wrongly Accused Anurag Kashyap Of Sexual Harassment Held For ‘Theft’

New Delhi: Actor Rupa Dutta was arrested for allegedly committing attention diversion theft at the venue of the International Kolkata Book Fair, Kolkata police informed on Sunday.

Rupa Dutta was arrested on Saturday after a policeman saw her throwing a purse into a dustbin, news agency PTI reported an officer of Bidhan Nagar North police station as saying.

As per the officer, the actress was detained and questioned and discrepancies were found in her answers.

Several purses and Rs 75,000 in cash were found from her bag during a search, he stated.

“The woman has been arrested in connection with ‘kepmari’ (attention diversion theft) and further investigation is underway to find out whether more people are connected with the crime,” the officer said, as quoted by PTI.

According to a report by The Indian Express, she was produced before a local court on Sunday and sent to police custody for a day.

Rupa Dutta is the same actress who had wrongly accused filmmaker Anurag Kashyap of sexual harassment.

In 2020, she had accused film director Anurag Kashyap of sending her inappropriate messages on Facebook.

It was later found out that she was chatting with another person whose first name was Anurag.
