Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister and six-time MLA Jairam Thakur was on Sunday elected the leader of the BJP Legislature Party. A senior official of the opposition party in the state gave this information. The Congress wrested power from the BJP in November by winning 40 seats in the 68-member Himachal Pradesh Assembly. BJP won 25 seats and three seats went to independents.
Senior BJP leader and election management committee chief Mangal Pandey said all 24 party MLAs elected Thakur unopposed to the post. A meeting of BJP legislators was held here and was attended by Thakur, state BJP chief Suresh Kashyap, BJP state in-charge and co-in-charge Avinash Rai Khanna and Sanjay Tandon and central observer Vinod Tawda. In the recently concluded assembly elections, Thakur won from Siraj with the highest margin of votes.
