Accident in Visakhapatnam factory: 140 women fall ill after leaking ammonium gas, burning eyes and vomiting

Around 140 women employees fell ill after gas leaked from Porus Laboratories Pvt Ltd company in Atchyutapuram, Visakhapatnam. Due to the gas, all these laborers started having burning sensation in their eyes and vomiting. First they were kept in the health center built in SEZ, hospitalized when their condition deteriorated. According to SP City Gautam Sali, no casualty has been reported.

The cause of the leak could not be ascertained
The gas is suspected to have leaked from Porus Lab located outside APIIC (Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation) SEZ in Atchutapuram, police said. The effect of which was seen on the people working in the Apparel Unit. All 140 laborers affected by the gas leak have been admitted to the hospital. Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board officials are investigating the gas leak.

State Industries Minister Gudivada told in Amarnath that the situation is under control. There was no casualty in the incident but several laborers have fallen ill.

In April also the fire was caused by a gas leak
Before the gas leak, in April 2022, 6 workers of the same company Porus Private Limited were killed in a fire. Friday’s incident happened at 12:30 pm. Apart from the employees present in the premises, workers of two garment company factories also complained of vomiting. Most of those who fell ill were employees of the Brandix factory located on the campus.
The victims of the accident were referred to two private hospitals in Achutapuram and NTR Hospital in Anakapalle.
